Amsterdam Deepfake Ring Busted for Multi-Million Euro Celebrity Scam

ECFIU have uncovered a criminal group in Amsterdam that used Deepfake technology to impersonate celebrities and steal millions from fans
ECFIU together with authorities in Amsterdam have dismantled a sophisticated criminal network that used advanced Deepfake and FaceSwap technology to impersonate celebrities and steal millions from victims. The fraudsters created highly convincing fake videos and live calls, using the likeness of famous actors and influencers to promote fraudulent investment schemes and solicit direct donations for fake charities.

The elaborate scam, which netted over €3,000,000, targeted fans and investors across social media platforms, leveraging the trust associated with well-known public figures. Following a cross-border investigation led by ECFIU, multiple suspects have been arrested in the Netherlands, and equipment used to produce the sophisticated forgeries has been seized.
